Stay Fit at Work

Hey there Fitness Fam,

I know many of you are in the Chicagoland area and it has been HOT as all get up this week with temperatures breaking 100 degrees. This extreme weather can make you sleepy or irritable or make you lose your appetite.  Some even slack on their daily exercise routines because of the heat.  I don't blame you.  I love to exercise outside and in this weather it's dangerous to work out in this heat.  I admit I've even slacked on my  routine.  But here are some suggestions you can do to stay fit and cool during this heat wave.

Some of us work in air-conditioned offices and sit at a desk typing away.  Take a break on the even-numbered hours to do some office exercises at your desk.

Grab some healthy snacks like fresh fruits and vegetables from a nearby grocery store or farmers' market to munch on  during the odd-numbered hours.

Drink plenty of water.  You might feel really cool in that air conditioned office but you may get dried out from all that cold air and be dehydrated and not even know it.  And make sure you keep a bottle of water on you for when you do go outside.  Trust me you will have to go outside at some point.  You can't live in your office all week.

Find 5-10 minutes in the morning and afternoon of your work shift (for your 9-5ers) to ZONE OUT!  Seriously!  Close your eyes, lay your head on your desk, listen to some soothing sounds/instrumentals/nature music (Pandora is free and easy for that) and just zone out.  This heat makes a lot of us stress out and we just need to relax before we all explode.

Write positive sayings on your sticky notes and put them around your desk.  A happy positive body is a healthy body.

Hope you have a safe and healthy Friday!
